Two Creatives and one Braincell

Around Christmas 2022, my artist friend Alkahria had a special offer: A set of properties from which the customer could choose those that she would translate into a character design. I decided to buy one such design and went for the options "Elf" + "Werewolf" + "multiple".

In the beginning of 2023, Alka started her community stream to work on the design... and during the brainstorming phase, I made the fatal suggestion that "multiple" could be interpreted as "different stages of the transformation process." An idea that she liked just as much as I did - and suddenly we had five characters on the screen. Oops.

Since the idea was too good to discard it, we re-negotiated the price, and the chaos unfolded. During the stream, Alka started tossing around the basic ideas for their story, and I absolutely loved those. And as the rest of the community hyped us up, we got more and more invested in that story.

Alka made the finished artwork look like a comic book cover, complete with a pretend ad. Among members of her community, there were the first comments saying that we needed a Kickstarter for that series - and I knew that I wanted to explore that story. To get to know this bunch of misfits.

The Pack

From the Elves' point of view, Werewolves are barely more than animals. At best, they are useful workers. At worst, they are dangerous monsters. But they are certainly not creatures with which one can enter a relationship at eye level. Whoever who disagrees with that risks anything from their reputation to their life.

Eventually, these prejudices led several Elven kingdoms to create brutal laws. In the kingdom of Fir'arun, one such law placed the death penalty on having Mixblood offspring. Five of these Mixbloods managed to escape the ensuing massacres and stay hidden for two decades. But mere survival is not enough – and when their paths cross, they take the opportunity to join forces against this injustice.

Sona'Ria

An assassin who moves silently by means of her Air magic. She's used to living in the shadows outside society, but after all those years in isolation, she's primarily angry because she never had a choice.  She's determined to take revenge on the king whose politics ruined her life. Too bad that she'll need to trust other people in order to reach that goal.

Lex Herabur

An alchemist who specializes in poisons and explosives. Apart from that, he conducts his own research with the goal of going down in history - if there's no place for him in this world, the least he can do is teach people to fear him.

The idea of killing a king together with others of his kind fits neatly into this plan. Almost too neatly to be true.

Feng Ara

A work slave who without formal education, but with strong muscles to make up for it. And ice magic as soon as she'll escape that predicament... But that's already everything she knows about herself. Her childhood, her family, her real name... all that is buried in the darkest corner of her memory, and she can't fight the feeling that she should avoid looking too closely.

Areon Son of Zepran and Lumia

A warrior who was the only one to survive the attack on his home village. Since then, he has been drifting through the world aimlessly - first into a monastery, then from one mercenary job to the next. Nothing of that will ever undo his failure to protect his loved ones - but maybe it will bring him some peace if the king who ordered that attack is held accountable.

Thakon Blackpelt

A former knight and experienced strategist. His brothers-in-arms used the first opportunity to reveal what they truly thought of him, and instead of enjoying his well-earned retirement, he is now being hunted by the very kingdom that he had been proudly defending for decades. Someone has to set that kingdom on the right path again.
